While the legalization of cannabis, whether for medical or recreational use, is still debated in France, the openings of “coffee-shops” are increasing. Two stalls have just opened their doors in the Paris region.
Buying weed or CBD cannabis legally in stores is now possible in Ile-de-France. After Besançon and Annoeullin, “coffee-shops” have recently opened in Puteaux (Hauts-de-Seine) and in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. While the legalization of cannabis, whether for therapeutic or recreational use, has been debated for several years in France, some have decided to exploit the ambiguity of the law governing the consumption of cannabidiol (CBD).
The Paris region learns about the legal sale of cannabis
Officially, this cannabinoid present in cannabis (but devoid of the psychoactive effects of THC) is not prohibited in France as long as the THC level does not exceed 0.2%. It is also possible to obtain it legally on the internet in the form of crystals, syrups, oils, herbal teas, creams or even candies. Its medicinal properties are sometimes used to treat seizures, inflammation, anxiety or even nausea.
Currently, only one cannabinoid drug has a marketing authorization in France: Sativex, recommended against spasticity and multiple sclerosis. Dronabinol and cannabidiol, used in the event of neuropathic pain refractory to conventional treatments or epilepsy, are accessible but only with a nominative temporary authorization (procedure making it possible to provide certain patients with a medicinal product that does not have authorization to use it. marketed and not undergoing a clinical trial in this indication).
But the Directorate General of Health (DGS) insists that “no therapeutic virtue can be claimed in particular by manufacturers, sellers of products containing CBD”. In particular so as not to maintain a confusion between cannabis and CBD, and thus to promote cannabis. “We are not doctors. I advise everyone not to smoke. We sell it as a product of common good, as we would sell a table or a chair”, explains to 20 minutes Joaquim Lousquy, owner of cParisian offee shop.
The region is about to launch
On June 13, it will be the turn of the East region to launch into the legal sale of CBD cannabis, since two stores will open in Nancy and Metz. “Everything is organic, the legislation is very strict. Swiss producers have adapted to the laws of each country, which vary enormously”, explains Baptiste De Luca, owner of the premises on a daily basis. Eastern Republican. This young 23-year-old entrepreneur already has a boutique in Épinal, which opened last May.
“The feedback from our customers is really positive. It really does people good and that’s what matters to us here. We even have sick customers who come to thank us”, adds Baptiste De Luca, who ensures that he is launched in this sector not for the “smoking” aspect but to defend the benefits of medical cannabis. Subject to the control of the police every week, the marijuana-based products sold in Baptiste de Luca’s stores do not contain THC and therefore have no psychotropic effect.
