Time for a nice restomod
The Lancia Aurelia isn’t the first car that comes to mind for a restomod, but we’re glad the brains of the people at the Thornley Kelham company work differently. They have created this Lancia Aurelia Outlaw European CSL, a classic Lancia with modern technology. The company is building a total of nine ‘normal’ Outlaws, of which six have already been delivered. With only three to go, they are stepping up. The power grows from about 220 hp to more than 300 hp and the weight decreases by 75 kilos to 1,100 kilos.
The 2.8-litre V6 normally found in the Outlaw will be replaced by Alfa Romeo’s 3.2-litre Busso V6. Even people unfamiliar with Alfa will recognize the shiny manifold of this renowned V6. It produces just over 300 horsepower. To turn this Outlaw into a CSL, Thornley Kelham fabricates aluminum panels. Each Lancia Aurelia Outlaw CSL takes 4,200 hours to build and another 800 hours to paint.
What makes this Lancia Aurelia Outlaw CSL a restomod
You don’t have a restomod with only an engine and some light parts. That is why TK installs a differential lock, power steering (optional), modern brakes and they adjust the chassis. The power of the Busso goes to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The interior will have an integrated roll cage and even air conditioning. Customers can choose the materials and color of the paint themselves.
“Weighing just over 1,100 kilograms, the European CSL is incomparably light by modern standards, and offers a very different sensation than heavy modern road cars with turbo engines and wide tires,” we are promised. “It offers a razor-sharp purity that just can’t be replicated, even in the most focused modern road cars.”
