One year of ban on practice, including 6 months suspended, is the sanction of the Order of Physicians against Prs Debré and Even, following the publication of their Guide to dangerous drugs.
It has become a best seller, the Guide to 4,000 useful, useless or dangerous drugs by Prof. Philippe Even and Bernard Debré, released in 2012 following the Mediator scandal, and which sold 200,000 copies, has very quickly became the object of strong criticism from the medical community. And the Order of Physicians has decided. He has just banned them from practicing medicine for a year, including six months suspended. The Order reproaches them for their lack of fellowship and accuses them of “calling into question the competence and honesty of doctors”.
Their Guide, published in October 2012, lists unnecessary or dangerous drugs. The two doctors had attacked the allergists, who they described as “gurus”, and judged the desensitization “neither founded, nor effective, nor without danger”. As for statins, these cholesterol-lowering drugs, they felt they were useless in the majority of cases. They are however prescribed to 5 million people in France.
Nearly 300 complaints
Specialists quickly became concerned about the consequences for patients. Because a loss of confidence in drugs can lead to stopping very useful treatments. As a result, allergists and cardiologists have filed a complaint against Pr Even and Debré. In total, nearly 300 complaints were lodged. Regarding the sanction of the Order of Physicians, Pr Even and Debré announced their decision to appeal. No doubt for the honor, since the two doctors no longer practice.
