Shiloh died at age 13 on December 8, 2021 from breast angiosarcoma, an extremely rare tumor in the breast cancer family. The Parisian reveals that her parents filed 41 complaints against the caregivers and hospitals that followed the teenager. They accuse them of having taken poor care of the young girl.
Breast cancer at 13: medical wandering denounced
In March 2021, the teenager noticed redness and an orange peel effect on her left breast. The latter also becomes painful, hot and swollen. His consultation with his attending physician marks the beginning of a medical wandering where different health professionals and establishments issue different diagnoses: cat scratches, mastitis, signs of abuse, etc.
During this period, doctors rule out the possibility of doing a mammogram due to the sensitivity of the mammary glands of adolescents to radiation. The parents also assure that the gynecological emergencies of a clinic in Ermont refused to examine their daughter, because she was under 15 years old. It was ultimately not until August 2021 that the diagnosis of grade II breast angiosarcoma was made after a biopsy. The young girl was then treated for her breast cancer. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy did not work and she died of the disease in December of the same year.
Complaints to highlight poor care of adolescents
The medical expert from the Conciliation and Compensation Commission concluded that the teenager would have died even if the correct diagnosis had been made earlier. However, the parents have just filed a complaint against the Center for Adolescents and Children (Paris 11th), caregivers from the Eaubonne hospital and other health professionals such as the attending physician for endangering the life of others and failure to assist a person in danger. They wish to denounce the poor care of their daughter due to her age, but also of all adolescents suffering from an adult illness.
“These are not medical errors, we were faced with refusals of care”, assured the mother Parisian. She believes that the care of adolescents is inadequate in France because iThey are treated by pediatric serviceswhen their body can already have adult characteristics and diseases. “I want to change the care of adolescents. We need recognition from the State, she must not have lost her life in vain“, concluded the mother.
