Lots of smoke, little noise
Rubber guzzler Ken Block has partnered with Audi. And when you think of Mr. Block, you immediately think of the Gymkhana videos. It is therefore only logical that he will drive an Audi in his next video. Surprisingly (well…) it will be a fully electric Gymkhana. That’s why the name becomes Electrikhana.
Ken Block has a history in rally, rallycross and drift projects. With that experience, he will help Audi with electric motorsport. So there is a good chance that we will see him in the electric Dakar car of the brand (with an engine from a DTM car as a generator). And as always, he will push the limits of what’s possible with the electric powertrains.
Secret Audi e-tron
The main star of Electrikhana will be a secret Audi e-tron that we get to see sometime next year. But where the electric cars in the Gymkhana video are new, we also get to see familiar faces. Travis Pastrana got behind the wheel for the 11th edition of Gymkhana, but in the next edition it will be Ken Block himself again.
“I can’t wait to release more details about the car Audi is building for Electrikhana. It’s going to be crazy,” Ken says. “Audi’s performance in the WRC with their Group B cars and their 1980s wins at Pikes Peak inspired me to become a rally driver.”
Why an EV in Electrikhana?
The choice for an EV in the new Gymkhana does not come out of the blue. An electric powertrain gives plenty of possibilities and flexibility that can make new stunts possible. Count on the EV torque to produce more tire smoke than ever before. In addition, it is a good opportunity for Audi to make EVs more attractive, which in turn helps with sales. It is not yet known when Electrikhana will be released.
