“I hope that in the coming weeks we will make the mask compulsory in closed public places”, said Emmanuel Macron during the traditional interview of July 14. Referring to the Coronavirus epidemic in France, the Head of State justified himself to journalists Léa Salamé and Gilles Bouleau: “we have signs that it is picking up a little bit”.
So that professionals can organize themselves, the President wanted the wearing of masks in closed public places to be put in place from August 1. The conditions for carrying out the health measure have not been specified. The French were also invited to wear the mask during outdoor gatherings.
Possible massive restart of transmissions
Emmanuel Macron’s decision comes when a column of doctors was published on Sunday July 12 in the columns of Le Parisien / Today in France, also demanding the obligation to wear a mask in closed and frequented public places.
“In France, the indicators are still green for the most part, but weak signals are starting to appear and should alert us to a possible massive restart of transmissions”are alarmed the signatories of the tribune. “However, it is at this stage that we must act to avoid a new massive and deadly wave. When the clusters will be more numerous and uncontrollable, it will be too late to avoid a new confinement, more or less complete. The second tomorrow’s wave is therefore preparing today”, they continue.
Clusters are multiplying in France, particularly in Mayenne, where nearly 300 cases of Covid-19 have been identified according to the Regional Health Agency (ARS). Questioned by the press on this subject, Prime Minister Jean Castex also recalled that “Wearing a mask is one of the ways to prevent the spread of the epidemic”.
