A herbal tea against the flu
Meadowsweet, called “vegetable aspirin”, contains salicylic acid (the synthetic derivative of which is used in our good old aspirin). Indicated from the first colds with fever, flu-like state with pain in the limbs, it soothes these ailments (to be avoided if you are allergic to aspirin). You will add linden and elderberry to complete the effects. And how good it smells, we already feel comforted!
The recipe for anti-flu herbal tea
- Prepare this mixture of dried plants: 50 g of meadowsweet, 50 g of elderflowers and 50 g of linden flowers. Store in a box.
- For the herbal tea, put 1 teaspoonful of this mixture in the tea filter of a teapot, sprinkle with boiling water, and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. You can also pour 1 liter of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of herbs in a large teapot. Filter and transfer the herbal tea into a Thermos bottle.
- Drink several cups throughout the day.
Lemon fights infections
It is an excellent stimulant that helps fight against winter infections. It has antiseptic, antimicrobial and purifying properties. Use organic lemons. The ideal is to drink this remedy three times a day.
Lemon herbal tea recipe
- Cut 1 lemon into four, put it in 50 cl of cold water, then boil for 10 minutes.
- Then leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Mash the lemon with a fork. Your herbal tea full of vitamin C and anti-infectious is ready. Drink hot.
- Good idea in addition: during the preparation, you can add 4 cloves to your herbal tea (to be removed before consuming). Cloves have the property of fighting viruses and bacteria. So you’ve got a double shot!
Magnesium chloride boost
Magnesium chloride, which is nothing more than a mineral salt, has long been recommended to give a boost to the immune system at the very first symptoms of a winter infection or the flu. Be careful though: this remedy can significantly accelerate intestinal transit. In case of diarrhea, stop immediately, of course! You will find it in pharmacies, in a 20 g sachet.
Recipe :
• Dilute 1 sachet of 20 g in 1 L of water, and drink 1 glass three times a day.
• If you find the taste unpleasant – it often is! -, you can mix the powder with orange or lemon juice.
• Store in the refrigerator.
Beehive products for better control
Among the products of the hive, there is of course honey: do not deprive yourself of it in your herbal teas!
But you can hit harder with propolis: considered a natural antibiotic, it fights the first signs of infection and stimulates natural defences.
Or even with royal jelly: our grandmothers used to give it to us at the onset of the bad season to better fight against winter diseases. Called the gold of the hive, royal jelly is a concentrate of essential substances: amino acids, trace elements and vitamins. It helps to reduce fatigue and stimulates the immune system. Pure, take 1g each morning. If you don’t like its pungent flavor, mix it with honey or fruit juice. Otherwise, prefer it in capsules or ampoules.
The alcohol-free anti-infection grog
This preparation can effectively help to defeat viruses and microbes.
Boil 1 cup of water for 10 minutes, adding these anti-infectives: 1 cinnamon stick, 3 or 4 cloves, and 1 pinch of thyme. Let cool, add the juice of a lemon and a little honey.
Filter and drink hot.
Improved mulled wine
- Take a quality wine, mix it with a little water.
- Add 4 slices of fresh ginger (for its antipyretic action).
- Heat and then leave to infuse for 10 minutes.
- Add lemon juice and a little honey. Drink hot in the evening.
- Another version of this recipe: add 2 cinnamon sticks, some lemon zest (organic) and, why not, some cloves to the wine.
Did you know ?
Drinking hot in case of flu triggers sweating which helps to eliminate toxins and lower fever. It was also said in the past that alcohol, thanks to its calories, helped the body fight infection. But hey, don’t overdo it!
