6 million vaccination vouchers were issued at the start of the week for the vaccination of kindergarten and primary school children. Last week, nearly 900,000 French people who consulted their doctor were infected with the H1N1 virus.
Roselyne Bachelot presented these figures provided by the regional influenza observation groups (Grog) covering the period from November 30 to December 6.
She said influenza activity stabilized over the past week. This activity is even on the decline in Ile de France, even if it is increasing in other regions.
34 deaths were observed during this week. The minister recalled that 126 deaths have been observed since the start of the epidemic, including twenty in people who do not present a priori risk.
“It is possible that we are approaching the peak of the epidemic,” said Roselyne Bachelot in addition. She said, however, that it is unclear whether the epidemic is waning or stabilizing. The minister also recalled that “the last waves of the epidemic are often the most virulent”.
