This is a scary figure. In a few years, seven children born around a small village in Ain, were born without arms or without hands. Whose fault is it ?
In Druillat, babies born without arms or without hands
The events took place between 2009 and 2014 within a radius of seven kilometers around a small village in Ain, Druillat. In all, seven children were born without arms or without hands. Defects which, after an extensive survey of parents, do not appear to be genetic or related to medication or drug use during pregnancy.
So why in this small countryside perimeter of Ain, is this rate of malformation 58 times higher than the norm? The investigation, led by the epidemiologist and director of Remera which identifies the malformations of the region, Emmanuelle Amar, found a common point between these babies: all mothers lived, during their pregnancy, in rural areas, in the middle of fields corn or sunflower.
Pollution would increase the risk of malformations
Does this mean that the rural pollution – and consequently the herbicides, pesticides, incecticides, fungicides – spilled in the fields, would be responsible for these intrauterine malformations? Emmanuelle Amar would have liked to know more, but for some time now, the funds paid to this regional register of registrations and observations of malformations have been suspended.
” The consequences are very simple. This is the end of the monitoring of malformations, that is to say the end of the alert too “She explains to the microphone of France 2. But another case could revive the debate because in Brittany where, in just a few me, other parents have reported the birth of children also born without arms or without hands.
