Hair types
Beautiful hair is really nothing but well-groomed hair. Impossible hair doesn’t exist, impossible wishes do! Discover the good facets of your hair and accept the limitations.
The most important starting point for good care is your hair type. Choose products that are most suitable for your hair type. You will notice that your hair will visibly improve and shine. It also feels more pleasant: softer and smoother. What are the different hair types? And how do you take care of your hair?

normal hair Normal hair is the exception rather than the rule. Few people are blessed with naturally healthy and shiny hair. Anyone who has such a head of hair would of course like to keep it that way!
Therefore, use mild care products. For example, an ‘every day’ shampoo, which cleans the hair without irritating the scalp. Such a shampoo contains surfactants. These are substances that gently cleanse the hair without drying it out. The shampoo is gentle enough to use daily.
Dry and damaged hair
Dry and damaged hair often go hand in hand. One is usually a consequence of the other. Naturally dry hair is caused by reduced sebum production from the scalp.
External influences can also dry out the hair, such as bright sunlight, sea and chlorinated water, air conditioning and central heating. But also the daily use of the hair dryer and curling iron, the rough pulling out of hair clips and rubber bands or careless brushing and combing damage the hair. Furthermore, perming and coloring also has a drying effect on the hair.
Whatever the cause, dry and damaged hair needs extra care. The shampoo should not only care, but also protect the hair by putting a layer on it. In this way the hair is extra armed against external influences.
Greasy hair
The cause of oily hair is similar to that of oily skin: hyperactive sebaceous glands. These glands are stimulated to produce at the slightest stimulation. Such a stimulation can consist of a disturbance of the balance of the scalp.
A disturbance can, for example, be the use of an aggressive, strongly degreasing shampoo or (extra) hormones. This explains why people who suffer from oily skin often also have oily hair. Oily hair, like oily skin, can be temporary. It can also be permanent.
Wash the hair as gently as possible to minimize irritation to the scalp. Such a gentle treatment initially consists of using a mild shampoo, especially suitable for oily hair. In addition, you should spare the scalp as much as possible while washing. So do not massage the skin.
If you have long hair, focus on washing your long locks. Make sure that you always rinse the shampoo well. Sometimes greasy hair is caused by using too many styling products or leaving shampoo residue behind. Finally, hot water can activate sebaceous glands. So wash your hair with lukewarm water.
Rose
There are a number of persistent misunderstandings about dandruff. For example, people with dark hair would be more likely to suffer from it. Nonsense, in people with blond or reddish hair, dandruff is only less noticeable. It is also thought to be a matter of hygiene. If you wash the hair regularly and rinse well, you should not be bothered by it.
Nothing is less true. Dandruff is a disease of the scalp and is caused by a type of yeast (pityrosporum ovale). It is found on everyone’s scalp, but under certain circumstances in large numbers. Normally, the scalp invisibly sheds dead, keratinized cells. If this type of yeast is overrepresented, these dead cells are shed more quickly and you can see them. We call this rose.
Rose is available in different types and intensities. Dry dandruff is the result of a dry scalp. It gives small white flakes on the scalp and in the hair. The flakes flutter over the clothes. In oily dandruff, the flakes stick together. They accumulate on the scalp.
Finally, you may also suffer from psoriasis. This is a skin disease that produces fine, tiny white flakes on the skin and scalp. The flakes look a lot like dandruff, but are generally caused by a metabolic disorder. If the scalp is pink, red and visibly irritated, chances are you have more than dandruff. When in doubt, always consult your doctor.
If you have dandruff, use a super gentle shampoo for dandruff hair. Such a shampoo makes short work of the yeast that underlies dandruff. Dietary supplements in the form of vitamins A and B6 can also provide relief.
Cream rinse or conditioner
You are not there with washing alone. Every hair type generally needs more care to look healthy and shiny. In the past, a conditioner was used after washing to detangle the hair and make it easier to comb. These products did nothing more.
The current generation of conditioners goes a step further, namely by:
- Restore the acidity of the hair after washing.
- Lay the scales of the hair nicely flat. This makes the hair shine and it is easy to comb.
- Where necessary, a conditioner adds extra nutrients to the hair.
Hair that is wet has a certain absorbency. This is optimally utilized during such a post-treatment with a conditioner. Match your conditioner to your hair type. On the one hand to give your hair what it needs in terms of care, on the other hand to prevent you from ‘overburdening’ it with caring ingredients.
Thin and fine hair, for example, requires an ‘airy’ conditioner, which is mainly massaged into the ends. Applied at the hair implant, this would unnecessarily weigh down the hair.
