Hyundai is currently developing the Ioniq 6 electric sedan derived from the Prophecy concept, and it has been photographed on the road. Despite the camouflage we can guess what remains and what changes compared to the concept. In addition, technical information is starting to emerge.
[Mis à jour le 19/08/2021] The arrival on the market of the Ioniq 6 is delayed by 3 months. Initially scheduled for the first quarter of 2022, the electric sedan developed by Hyundai will not actually arrive until the end of the second half of that same year. The reasons given are technical: the group’s boss, Eui-sun Chung, was not satisfied with certain characteristics in terms of autonomy. Thus, the front and rear bumpers have been modified, lengthening the car by 20 mm and providing it with better aerodynamics. In addition, a battery with a capacity of 77.4 kWh will be installed in the base.

Hyundai has just started the rollout of its new Ioniq range of electric vehicles with the Ioniq 5 crossover, derived from the 2019 45 concept car. The second model of this new family will be the Ioniq 6, a fastback sedan based on the Prophecy concept from 2020. This one was photographed for the first time on the road, still heavily camouflaged, as its development continues.

An atypical but calm style
Despite the camouflage, we can imagine proportions close to those of the concept car with a short front hood, reduced overhangs and an arched roof. The shape of the stern is visibly masked by a fictitious bodywork element, but we can hope to find the rear “falling” which gave the concept of false airs of Porsche. In the front, we note higher fenders than on the 2020 style study and a hood that is no longer hollowed out between them. This makes the whole less dynamic and probably reflects the presence of a classic sedan suspension (MacPherson struts for example) rather than a double wishbone characteristic of sports cars, which would keep a very low “muzzle”. The car is also fitted with mirror cameras.

Ioniq 6 as 600 km of autonomy?
Like the Ioniq 5, the 6 will be based on the Hyundai Group’s new modular E-GMP platform with battery in the center under the floor, main engine in the rear and additional engine in the front at the top of the range to deliver power. superior and all-wheel drive. The Ioniq 6 could benefit from a longer wheelbase than the SUV to accommodate a larger battery which, combined with its optimized silhouette to reduce consumption, would allow it to enjoy greater autonomy. The Ioniq 5 claims up to 481 km in the WLTP cycle (single-engine version of 218 hp with 73 kWh battery). According to The Korean Car Blog, which relays these images, the sedan could travel 650 km, even 700 km on a charge. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is due to go on sale in 2022 and should gradually reveal itself more by then. Then, the range will be completed by a large SUV named Ioniq 7.
