According to a study published in the American journal of cardiologyit would be wise to detect high blood pressure early in young adults rather than waiting for the disease to progress. Because according to researchers at Columbia University (United States) who published this study, suffering from hypertension before the age of 40 increases the risk of coronary disease later.
If the systolic blood pressure exceeds 130
Researchers have found that a person under the age of 40 whose systolic blood pressure (the highest number) was greater than 130 had a risk ofheart failure 37% greater later in life, compared to someone whose systolic blood pressure is below 120. To reach these conclusions, they analyzed 6 studies involving more than 36,000 people.
They also found that a person under 40 with a rate of “bad cholesterol” (LDL) greater than 100 had a 64% higher risk of coronary heart disease.
According to these researchers, cholesterol control and blood pressure in early adulthood “could provide substantial benefits”.
