Avoid what irritates the tongue
People prone to mouth ulcers are advised to limit their consumption of cheese (Gruyère), dried fruits (nuts in particular), pineapple, spicy spices… Vinegar, alcohol, tomatoes, citrus fruits and kiwis, all acidic, also have the reputation of promoting canker sores. Also avoid tobacco.
- Choose toothpastesodium lauryl sulphate free. This foaming and degreasing surfactant can irritate the tongue. Finally, be patient before consuming a food or drink that is too hot (or cold), otherwise you risk burning your tongue.
Inspect it
The appearance of our tongue is a very good indicator of our state of health. Covered with mucous membrane, it can be prone to bacterial, viral and fungal infections. A healthy tongue should be pink, slightly rough, moist, and spotless. The good habit to adopt: inspect it every morning after brushing your teeth. If it is spotted, black, whitish, yellowish… or even abnormally swollen, even damaged, it is better to go see a doctor, even if you do not feel any pain.
Detox it with sesame oil
Oil mouthwash (or “gandush”) is a technique derived from Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine. It cleans the mouth by eliminating toxins and other bacteria, and reactivates the circulation of the meridians. It is done in the morning, after brushing your teeth, with organic, antibacterial, antiviral and fungicidal sesame oil.
- Simple to make : keep 1 tbsp. tablespoons of oil in the mouth for 15 to 20 minutes and circulate it from one cheek to the other, between the teeth… Spit out the oil in a trash can or in the toilet (so as not to clog the pipes). If necessary, rinse your mouth.
Brush it once in a while
A clean tongue helps prevent the development of bacteria, bad breath, dental plaque and gum inflammation. After brushing your teeth in the rules of the art (at least 2 minutes + brush or dental floss + mouthwash for the followers), we also think of cleaning your tongue from time to time. Either with the bristles of the toothbrush, or with a scraper or scraper made for that (in parapharmacies) by going from the back to the front and without pressing too hard. Make one or two passes on the middle then on each side. But not too often because the tongue is home to good bacteria that play a protective role.
- Two to four times a monthdo not hesitate to make a mouthwash with baking soda (1/2 tsp of powder diluted in 1/2 glass of water).
