Depression: “What does not kill makes you stronger…”

“While the depression is temporary and often cyclical, due to a particular event, such as a separation, a dismissal, depression, it settles over time, explains the psychoanalyst Moussa Nabati. It is defined as a period of at least a fortnight marked by sadness and a lack of interest.”
Everything that once gave pleasure is no longer of interest, we no longer have a taste for anything. We devalue ourselves and our self-esteem is at zero. “The change is radical, specifies the shrink. The depressed person suddenly presents several blockages. Socially, she brutally disinvests her relationship, isolates herself. Her ability to love, to work, is upset. Psychologically, she is in slow motion : her will and her combativeness have disappeared. She is aware of this state and she suffers from it, denigrates herself and feels inferior to others.”
Of course, all of this can be treated with medication. “But to prevent relapse, it is better to combine treatment with psychotherapy, adds psychiatrist Charly Cungi. This will promote the resumption of activity and modify the perception that the person has of himself, by defusing his negative thoughts. ” A psychotherapy of a few months which will allow to understand the causes of his sadness, and by knowing himself better, to take stock of his life in order to finally be able to face it.
