An investigation, revealed by France Info stresses that waiting times to see a specialist are still very long in France, with big disparities depending on the region.
Do you want to make an appointment with the ophthalmologist? You will have to do this in advance because the average waiting time is 55 days. That said, it has gone down in recent years as it stood at 80 days two years ago.
The ability to make an appointment online greatly streamlines requests, without solving the problem. The appearance of sites like Doctolib, which are growing exponentially, helps to have an appointment more quickly. But 36% of requests continue to be unsuccessful.
Big disparities between regions
Depending on the region, it is more or less difficult to consult a health professional. If the waiting period for an ophthalmologist in Ile-de-France is on average 25 days, it amounts to 135 days in Normandy, for example.
Depending on the specialties, this also varies. You will be able to see a gynecologist within 44 days, a cardiologist within 50 days and a dermatologist within 60 days on average in France.
The solution to reduce these delays? Increase teleconsultation, work with partner professions (orthoptists and ophthalmologists for example), and of course increase the number of specialist doctors. On track with the end of the numerus clausus.
