I am a 40 year old woman. I am 158 centimeters tall and weigh 60 kilograms. Last year I was still 69-70 kilograms. I started losing weight in May 2011. First I followed the Dukan diet for a while, then I stopped this and just consciously started eating without/with few snacks, chips, sweets, etc. Every now and then I do indulge in extra things. I lost 9 kilograms in the first 6 months. Since January I am at 60 kilograms and the scales just won’t go any lower. It will stick between 59.9 and 61. I also do sports. That varies from 30 minutes of fitness per day and sometimes another 40-45 minutes afterwards. So I exercise almost every day. I’m getting a bit despondent about the fact that my weight just won’t go down for months. I also measure myself every so often, but I don’t notice any difference there either. I keep a journal these days to make sure I don’t overeat. My calorie intake stays between 1000-1700 kcal per day (depending on my exercise time). Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong or what I should do to still reach my ideal weight of 50 kilograms?

First of all, very clever that you have lost 10 kilograms and that you also manage to maintain this weight. You are now a healthy weight for your height. And you notice that your body is now going to work against you to lose weight even further. Eating less is actually not an option, you already get few calories. With so few calories it is also very difficult to get enough vitamins and minerals, a multivitamin may then provide a supplement.
When you consume less than 1200 kcal, your metabolism will go down to protect your body, as it were. It is possible that at some point you will lose weight again without eating less.
If you would like to be properly guided, you can ask for help from a dietician. Another tip for the movement: make sure you have variety. Ask the gym regularly for a new schedule or try a different sport. Your body will burn more calories this way.
