Anyone who searches the internet for a good physiotherapist will soon lose track of the enormous amount of information. We help you on your way. A guide to searching and finding.
You used to receive a referral letter for ‘the physiotherapist’, nowadays you can go directly to a tailor-made physiotherapist of your own choice. There is a wide choice: there is a separate physiotherapist for every complaint. ‘The physiotherapist’ no longer exists:
- If you have complaints during daily exercise, or if you want to prevent loss of mobility, you can go to a geriatric physiotherapist for remedial therapy.
- In the event of accidental loss of urine, back and pelvic pain, the pelvic physiotherapist can help train the pelvic floor muscles.
- Tension or stress-related complaints and unexplained physical complaints are treated by the psychosomatic physiotherapist.
- You can contact a manual therapist for treatment of joint and spinal complaints.
- Do you want to quit smoking? Some physical therapists offer a special exercise program for smoking cessation: Staying Clean.

Titia Lekkerkerk of the NPCF: “We regularly receive reports from consumers that the physiotherapist’s bill is not reimbursed. Health insurers do not have a contract with all physiotherapists and those contracts change every year. So you should not be surprised if your physiotherapist is suddenly no longer reimbursed. So always call the health insurer before you start using care.”
