In order to save money, the rapporteur for the 2015 social security budget offers patients the opportunity to spend their convalescence in hospital hotels.
What if we sent convalescing patients to hotel rooms instead of hospital rooms? This is what PS deputy Olivier Véran, rapporteur for the 2015 Social Security budget, proposed to the National Assembly last Friday, during the presentation of the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS.)
1200 euros savings per night
According to the Socialist deputy, spending the night in the hotel rather than in the hospital after an operation could lower the costs from 1,250 to 50 euros for the state. This formula therefore represents an important avenue to be explored within the framework of the PLFSS, which plans to save 3.2 billion euros in the 2015 Social Security budget.
Nurses 24 hours a day
Olivier Véran wishes to table an amendment to experiment with the construction of hospital hotels, according to information from the newspaper The Parisian. These establishments, based on the practice of outpatient surgery which consists of letting the patient return to his home 12 hours after an operation, already exist. However, the nights spent in these establishments are the responsibility of the patient. Olivier Véran therefore suggests that the regional investment fund be used to set up the structures. Health insurance, for its part, would reimburse the nights to these patients. The Socialist deputy also proposes that these establishments benefit from surveillance provided by nurses 24 hours a day.
