Maître Édouard Bourgin, who was in charge of the file of the first seven alleged victims of Dr. V., decided to bring together 33 of them this Thursday in Grenoble after having received new testimonies.
Thirty-three alleged victims of Dr. V., now nicknamed the “surgeon of horror”, are to meet this Thursday in Grenoble, reports a correspondent from the Parisian. This meeting, initiated by Maître Édouard Bourgin, a lawyer specializing in medical errors, will allow these former patients to “collectively expose the grievances they may have vis-à-vis this doctor”.
Sixty calls made to the lawyer
In total, the lawyer claims to have received around sixty calls from people claiming to be victims of Dr. V. “It’s unheard of,” he wonders to the daily. And for good reason: during the media coverage of the case, they were “only” seven. But the “horror surgeon” seems to have done more damage than it seems and thehe list of wrongs with which he is accused is long: non-compliance with operating techniques, harmful lack of quality in the operating follow-up, medical errors leading to amputations or disabilities, forgetting compresses leading to superinfection, etc.
Doctor V., who worked at the Clinique des Cèdres d’Échirolles (Grenoble region) as a back specialist, is now the subject of a preliminary investigation for “endangering others” and has been suspended from his duties. functions by the Order of Physicians for 3 years, 18 of which are suspended.
“The extent of the damage attributable to this surgeon”
“The purpose of this meeting is also to show publicly, through the presence of these 33 patients all together in one place, the extent of the damage attributable to this surgeon, explains Maître Édouard Bourgin. And to prove that he is This is indeed a public health scandal. Because after the 54 victims already identified by the CPAM, I believe that it is not possible that among the 60 calls I received, a significant part of these patients have no real grievances to develop against this doctor”.
The doctor’s practices were revealed in 2016, when the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) discovered 54 files from Doctor V., showing that some patients operated on had been operated on without medical justification, thus creating a considerable risk. Most of them have been amputated or are now confined to wheelchairs. All believe that their sequelae are directly due to the dubious practices of the surgeon.
