People who test positive for Covid-19 will be offered a visit by a healthcare team for “reinforced support”, in the words of the Minister of Health on Thursday, December 10. And they will be asked, like contact cases, to commit to respecting their isolation.
- The purpose of this measure is to improve patient tracing.
- Caregivers will be able to carry out antigenic tests with those around them who share the same household.
- PCR tests will evolve to aim for 100% results in less than 24 hours, or even in less than 12 hours.
The government wants to reinforce the isolation of Covid-19 positives. For this, the Minister of Health announced this Thursday the proposal for a “reinforced support” for each person tested positive which results in a visit to their home by a team of caregivers. This measure aims to persuade infected people or contact cases of the importance of isolating themselves well and intervening even more quickly to avoid the appearance of family centers of contagion.
moral support
“The objective is that each person diagnosed positive for the virus is offered a visit to their home by a multi-professional, multi-disciplinary team, including a carer, a nurse or a liberal nurse most of the time.”, suggested Olivier Véran at a press conference this Thursday, December 10. This measure makes it possible to avoid compulsory isolation, not retained by the members of the government as recognized by Jean Castex during this same press conference, “lack of consensus” on this subject specified the Prime Minister.
The objective is to improve patient tracing and break the chains of contamination. Caregivers will be able tocarry out antigenic tests with relatives who share the same household as the positive or sick person” for “insulate faster and more effectively”. But it does not stop there. Caregivers will also be in charge of a “human support“providing”advice on isolation conditions”. In addition, support is provided for “provide support“to isolated people, such as”someone who lives alone, who cannot shop”, added the Minister of Health.
Screening will be stepped up
The staff dedicated to “contact tracing”, as Olivier Véran named it, will increase. These versatile mobile teams will be made up of at least one caregiver. “We are working on a document, a kind of charter, which will be given to the patient as soon as the test is carried out, which will contain advice and which will allow the person to commit to respecting sheltering if the test should be positive.”, added the Minister of Health. But what will this commitment be worth in terms of possible constraints, will compliance with it be monitored? The government gives no indication on these points.
In addition to this strengthening of tracing, screening will also change somewhat. On December 15, a bonus-malus will be put in place for biological laboratories, depending on their speed in delivering the results of PCR tests. The goal is to get “100 % results in less than 24 hours, even in less than 12 hours“, said Olivier Véran. Currently, 75% of tests deliver their results the same day.
