The cartography, based on the latest figures available for people living with HIV in 2013, was presented at the 21st International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa.
For organizations, the purpose of this map is to guide prevention and screening actions through “precise and localized knowledge of theHIV epidemic“.
These figures tell us that the number of new HIV infections is not decreasing in France since in 2013, there were 7,100.
The regions most affected by HIV
The most affected regions are also the largest in France: Île-de-France (3,000 people affected), the Rhône-Alpes and Paca regions (with 300 and 500 people infected, respectively).
In relation to the number of inhabitants, the regions most affected by HIV are Guyana (18 infections per 10,000 inhabitants), Guadeloupe (7), Île-de-France (4) and Martinique (3).
People most affected by HIV
The profile of people with HIV : in Île-de-France, men who have had sex with other men and people born in sub-Saharan Africa.
In Paca, men who have had homosexual intercourse and in Rhône-Alpes, this same category, and women born in sub-Saharan Africa.
24,800 people were unaware of their HIV status in 2013
Three years is the average time it takes for a diagnosis of seropositive is posed. This period can be up to 4 years in some regions.
Thus, in 2013, 24,800 people affected by HIV in France were unaware of it. 42% of them lived in Île-de-France, 6% in Paca and 6% in Rhône-Alpes.
800 to 1000 people with HIV lived in Pays-de-la-Loire, Center, Aquitaine, Guyana, Midi-Pyrénées and Languedoc-Roussillon.
The ANRS nevertheless specified that “thanks to antiretroviral treatment, the quality and the life expectancy of people living with HIV have improved considerably” over the past twenty years.
