In its latest series, Canal + introduces us to the merciless and folkloric universe of Paris public hospitals. Budget cuts, doctors in quarantines, interns in charge of an overbooked service … Louise Bourgoin, Alice Belaïdi and Gà © raldine Nakache brilliantly carry the Thomas Lilti series.
Welcome to the Poincarà © hospital. On the left, the rehabilitation department, on the right the internal medicine. In the center ? An incredible galley: a man died of an unknown exotic virus. All the doctors in the internal medicine department are in quarantine. The controls ? Chloe, rightly and soberly interpreted by Louise Bourgoin, intern herself. Accompanied by two young medical students, at the very start of their apprenticeship, and a back-up forensic doctor. Humanity, humor, medicine, pain and tolerance blend together in this quasi-documentary series.
Budget cuts and doctors in dire straits
“Medicine is instant, hop, hop, hop!“Pressed for time, the doctors carry the service at arm’s length. Each episode has its favorite patient, its funding galley, its medical and dramatic twist. Nothing to do, however, with the folklore of a Grey’s Anatomy or Dr. House Here, everything is more true, everything goes slower, everything is more … French!
The director is not afraid to show doctors who panic, who make mistakes, regret, cry … and start over. All without almost never sleeping. An alarm bell for the state of the APHP and an ode to tolerance for those who devote their lives to it. To have !
