We give you some tips on what to eat and drink during this second heatwave of summer.
Hydrate often
You hear it everywhere, it’s the key word this week: drink water! Heat increases the risk of dehydration, so be sure to drink enough during the day to replace the water you lose. Don’t wait to be thirsty to drink, make it a regular habit.
To vary the pleasures, the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) recommends consuming flavored waters or adding a few drops of lemon to the water.
Be careful, however, not to drink drinks that are too cold. Iced drinks can cause intestinal disorders and therefore stomach pain.
Avoid coffee and alcohol
According to ANSES, to better withstand the heat, it is better to avoid alcoholic drinks which increase dehydration and those containing caffeine which have a diuretic effect (that is to say which promote urination). On the other hand, no contraindication for tea!
Watch out for sugary drinks
Even if sugary drinks seem to quench your thirst in the moment, this is not the case in the long term. Because they secrete insulin, dehydrate and make the feeling of thirst reappear very quickly.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables
Watermelons, melons, strawberries, peaches… Favor all fruits that are rich in water to maximize your hydration. For vegetables, same advice: choose those full of water like tomatoes and zucchini. You can even make cold soups, like gazpacho.
