Hearing aids soon to be fully reimbursed with the entry into force of 100% health
According to ‘My hearing center‘, -the site which indexes all hearing centers based in France for free-: ” hearing loss leads to dependence, loss of bearings, domestic accidents or depression. Hearing loss increases the risk of death by 20% in those affected “. However, hearing aids are among the most expensive medical devices. But the financial question will no longer be a problem as of January 1, 2021. And for good reason, the 100% health reform comes into force on that date.
As a reminder, the 100% audiology health reform initiated in January 2019 has made it possible to regulate the reimbursement of hearing aids in a progressive manner to achieve full reimbursement in January 2021. In less than a month, patients will therefore be able to be reimbursed for their costs. 100% hearing aids by Health Insurance and their complementary health insurance.
Thanks to the 100% Health reform, the selling price of the first model goes from 1,500 to 950 euros each, or 1,900 euros per pair of hearing aids. The remainder will be paid by the complementary health insurance up to 710 euros. Social Security will reimburse up to 240 euros.
Two device categories
- Class 1 hearing aids: Fully reimbursed by Social Security and complementary health insurance, this category includes devices to be placed in or behind the ear and includes twelve adjustment channels as well as three options or functions among the following: tinnitus reducer, wireless connectivity, reducer wind noise, binaural synchronization, adaptive microphone directivity, extended bandwidth ≥ 6000Hz, loudness learning, reverberation reduction.
- Class 2 hearing aids: it is hearing aids at free prices which do not benefit from the remainder at zero charge. However, these devices are still supported by Social Security. It is the reimbursement of complementary health insurance which varies from one contract to another.
