A survey published on the occasion of 70 years of Social Security testifies to the concern of the French and insists on the need for reforms of the social protection model.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Social Security, an Odoxa poll for Le Parisien / Today in France and France once again underlines the concern of the French about the state of their social protection system.
According to the latest figures collected by the Odaxa institute on 1er and last October 2, more than 80% of the 1002 people surveyed fear for the sustainability of the social security model. In ten years, 69% of them feel that care has deteriorated. A feeling shared whatever the social origin or the region, even if it is more exacerbated in precarious environments, at more than 70%.

Three quarters “pro reforms”
Faced with this reality, the French believe that it is urgent to build effective and lasting reforms. Three in four people (74%) believe that the social security and health insurance system needs to be reformed in depth.

But the real surprise is that this opinion transcends all political divisions. The supporters of the right (84%) as of the left (62%) demand an overhaul of the system But less than a quarter of them trust political parties, whatever their side, to carry out this project. .
Question, reform, rethink
It is this need for reform and modernization of the system that Marisol Touraine highlighted in her speech delivered on Tuesday on the occasion of this anniversary. The Minister of Health recalled the success of the French model since its creation in 1945, but she also insisted on the need to develop it.
“Social security is effective, it is proven. But to remain so, it must always be questioned, reformed, rethought. To the permanence of the main principles, it must combine the scalability of their implementation to constantly adapt to the social and economic situation, ”she underlined.
The generalization of third-party payment and the universal health protection implemented within the framework of the health law are the first examples cited, and which are, in his eyes, the most important in combating the feeling of degradation of care.
Vital card for life
Other specific measures should be mentioned by President François Hollande this Tuesday evening, during his closing speech for the day. They will aim to simplify the procedures to be entitled to health insurance by 2016.
A single vital card, for all life, should be introduced. With this, you no longer need to fill out papers to complete a change of status, it will suffice to show that you have lived on French territory for at least six months to benefit from social cover.
A measure which also benefits married people who do not work and are now affiliated with their spouse’s social security. In the event of divorce, they will retain their personal rights and no longer need to fill out a form to benefit from universal health coverage.
