A 12-year prison sentence was required at the Paris Assizes on Wednesday against Dr. André Hazout, the gynecologist accused of rape and sexual assault on patients.
A sentence of twelve years of criminal imprisonment was required on Wednesday at the Paris Assizes against Dr André Hazout, renowned gynecologist specializing in medically assisted procreation (PMA) accused of rape and sexual assault on patients. The attorney general, Annie Grenier, asked the court to pronounce the guilt of the doctor for rape and sexual assault on six patients considering that “The just sentence” for these facts was twelve years of criminal imprisonment, and in any case, not less than ten years, minimum sentence for a criminal conviction.
“One’s desire won out over the other’s weakness”
For the magistrate, this sentence is in particular justified by “the situation” of doctor of the accused and “the great number of his victims”. In this case, “the desire of one prevailed over the weakness of the other”, summarized the representative of the public prosecutor for whom the gynecologist abused his authority as a practitioner and his “psychological ascendancy” facing patients “in a state of vulnerability”.
Because during his years of practice, Dr. André Hazout was one of the great figures of reproductive medicine. Present in all medical congresses, he was respected by his peers. Almost all of his colleagues at the time declared that they had not received any complaints from patients. Pr René Frydman, head of department at Antoine Béclère hospital and father of 1er test tube, he has heard of the rumors, told Dr Hazout, but nothing more.
