The happy dad now hopes to complete his transition by having his breasts and ovaries removed.
A happy and somewhat incongruous event took place in England a few weeks ago. Hayden Cross, legally recognized as a man for 3 years after changing gender, gave birth to a baby girl, Trinity-Leigh, born by Caesarean on June 16. The dad had put her transition and hormone therapy on hiatus during her pregnancy. He now hopes to complete his transition by having his breasts and ovaries removed.
“She perfect in every way”, he declared to Sun after giving birth, talking about her daughter.
Hayden Cross, had applied to have these eggs frozen by the NHS, the British public health system, in the hope that he could have children in the future. After receiving a refusal from the institution, he found an anonymous sperm donor on Facebook and became pregnant.
The announcement of her pregnancy had triggered a real outcry on social networks.
Not a unique case
“Having biological children has always meant a lot to me,” he said earlier in the year. “I had always wanted to have children”. Her daughter was born at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. On his birth certificate, Mr. Cross is listed as his mother. The father is not indicated.
While Hayden Cross’s case is rare, it is not unique. Thomas Beatie, an American transgender, in 2008 became the first man to give birth. Since then, he is the proud father of 3 children. And in September, an Ecuadorian transgender couple (a man-turned-woman and a woman-turned-man) became the first couple to welcome a child in Latin America. Not having undergone a complete transition, they had this child naturally.
