We know it, hand washing is the essential gesture that prevents the spread of winter viruses. Gastro, bronchiolitis, flu : so many diseases that will not be long in coming and that we can avoid transmission by taking care to wash our hands regularly, several times a day. However, if we are to believe a study published on the occasion, this October 15, of the International Handwashing Day, on the hygiene side we can really do better.
We thus learn, in this study commissioned by a specialist in the rental and maintenance of hygiene articles that:
– 48.7% of French employees admit not washing their hands after each use of the toilet;
– One in 5 employees uses their phone in the toilets and 1 in 10 take the opportunity to surf the Internet;
– Only 21.1% of those questioned made the link between illness and lack of hygiene at work.
Handwashing Day was originally created to educate school children about handwashing with soap and water and to help them adopt hygienic behaviors. Indeed, it has been proven that simple hand washing effectively prevents infections, especially in children who attend nurseries and nursery schools and who constantly use their hands to eat, play, blow their nose, etc.
According to another survey published by a hygiene leader, nearly 80% of parents of kindergarten children think it is very important that their children take good hygiene habits. And over 60% of them believe that a fun educational approach would help teachers in this task. As soon as asked, immediately done, since this hygiene leader (Tork) has just launched a tablet application (Ella’s Handwashing Adventure) which encourages young children to wash their hands better. The application is already available for free download on the App Store and Google Play.
In this time of virus sharing, the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (Inpes) recommends washing your hands several times a day with soap, for at least 30 seconds. The institute also invites you to repeat this gesture after sneezing, coughing or blowing your nose, before and after each meal, after each outing and, of course, after each trip to the toilet.
