The right hair care
Everything is more difficult on a bad hair day, according to psychological research. Another reason to make sure your hair is in good shape. This is certainly possible with the right care products.
Only clean hair shines and falls smoothly. Do you have oily hair, or rather: an oily scalp? Please wash it daily. It is a myth that the hair becomes greasy faster as a result. Even for those who use a lot of styling products or who perspire quickly, washing more often is pleasant. But it must be done with care; treat the hair as you would a favorite sweater. So don’t use too hot, don’t use too much shampoo (a walnut-sized amount is enough) and don’t rub dry roughly. And the most important part of the wash: rinse. Shampoo residues make the hair limp and make it look greasy or dirty again quickly.
The right shampoo
As for the shampoo, choose one that is tailored to your hair type. It contains exactly the ingredients that address any hair problem. Lint and frizz are two of the most common hair problems, especially in the fall and winter. An anti-frizz shampoo can make dry and unruly hair soft and supple. Gentle on hair and scalp, and also very ‘green’, are shampoos with natural detergents. Nowadays there are even shampoos that are made up entirely of purely natural ingredients. Striking are the shampoos with nourishing oils. Oil is back, partly because of its nourishing qualities.
Have a good hair day every day
Thanks to the new styling products, bad hair days are a thing of the past. Really, it’s that simple. limp, fine hair without volume? Styling mousses provide a full bunch, especially if the label also indicates that the mousse provides more volume. Divide a ball of foam over towel-dried hair, blow dry the hair ‘against the grain’ (with the head forward) and then blow-dry it into model. The effect of the new volume powders is also spectacular. Shake some powder into palms, rub hands together and then distribute over dry hair, especially at the roots. Immediate result! A drawback; the hair does show a bit more dirt.
Do you like to wear your hair in a (messy) bun? A fine mist of hairspray holds it in place. Even a shorter haircut stays in shape for a long time with a hairspray. The modern hairspray works as a flexible ‘hairnet’, so that the hair can keep moving (and not as a kind of helmet on the head). Unruly hair? Styling cream or flexible wax makes curls or bouncy locks soft and supple. Simply knead into dry hair with your fingers and you’re done.
Shiny healthy
When the hair cuticles are no longer overlapping each other, the hair becomes porous. Hot styling devices, bleaching, perms and (too) much sun are possible causes. Hair cannot recover on its own, so help is needed. A conditioner lays a caring and protective layer over the scales and makes the hair soft and shiny. Spread the emulsion through the damp hair with your fingers or with a wide-tooth comb, let it soak in briefly and then rinse well. Then the comb glides through effortlessly. There are also leave-in conditioners, often with a nourishing oil as an ingredient. You apply it to towel-dried hair and you don’t have to rinse it out. Finally, a conditioner that protects against heat is not a luxury if you want to style the hair with a hot curling iron, flat iron or hair dryer. If the hair is in poor condition and therefore dry and frizzy, treat it occasionally with a hair mask. Use such a mask as often as necessary. The modern hair masks have a short reaction time (1 minute!) and do not make the hair weak and heavy.
Hold on to that hair
The hair of menopausal women often becomes thinner. This is because the influence of the female hormone estrogen decreases, and the influence of the male hormone testosterone increases. Those who are predisposed to hereditary baldness can then be confronted with considerable hair loss. According to dermatologist Ids Boersma, 40 percent of women suffer from this form of hair loss. Unlike men, women’s hair is thinner all over the head. Stress, old age, illness, medication and an unhealthy lifestyle can also cause hair loss.
The only living part of the hair are the hair follicles from which the hairs grow. You can try to influence this by, for example, taking special food supplements against hair loss. There are also serums that you should apply to the scalp to prevent hair loss. And then there are also products that provide more hair density. In short, this works as follows. Each hair grows from a hair follicle. Such a follicle can be active, then a hair grows. In the resting phase, no hair grows. This type of product puts an end to the resting phase, so that a hair starts growing out of the follicle. And the more hairs grow, the fuller the head of hair.
