Gyms, saunas, casinos and sports canteens may be able to reopen from July 1. It was previously announced that this would probably only be possible in September, but that it would be examined whether it was possible to bring this date forward.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced this on Wednesday. He emphasizes that relaxation will only really continue if it is really possible. At the end of June, the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) will issue a recommendation.
“The OMT has given strict advice for gyms and saunas, which they must comply with in order to be allowed to open again,” said Rutte during a short press moment. According to the prime minister, the entire package of 1 July will only continue if it is really possible.
Previously, the government’s decision sparked widespread criticism among gym owners. Branch association NL Actief announced last week that many gyms are ready to open their doors again in a safe and responsible way on June 1.
Relaxations
A number of measures are already being relaxed, for example, contact professions have already started work on 11 May. In addition, the catering industry can receive a limited number of guests again from June 1th, cultural institutions will open and secondary school students can also return to their classrooms.
Rutte does ask the Dutch to handle the situation wisely and to continue to comply with the regulations against the spread of the corona virus.
