INTERVIEW – Dr Bernadette de Gasquet considers the use of jade eggs advocated by the American actress on her site to be risky.
American actress Gwyneth Paltrow once again attracts the wrath of the medical profession. After his much maligned positions on the benefits of the gluten-free diet for children, it is now a interview on its Goop site which raises an outcry. Entitled Better sex: jade eggs for your yoni, the article extols the virtues of jade eggs – sold on the same site! -, which introduced into the vagina would bring many benefits, both in terms of health and for sexual development. Several doctors reacted in the United States to denounce these remarks. Dr Bernadette de Gasquet, perineum specialist, yoga teacher and author ofIn praise of maturity. (Ed. Laffont), explains to Why actor how this practice can be harmful.
The secret of jade eggs is said to be inherited from Chinese concubines. Have you heard of it?
Dr Bernadette de Gasquet : A work entitled Bone marrow nei kung, which dates from the mid-1940s had already popularized in the West the use of jade eggs. So this is nothing new. Eggs are indeed part of a certain tradition but that has little to do with what is presented in this American article. These eggs were used for energy purposes, but in a very specific context, and by expert people. The eggs were mostly pierced, and fitted with a string with a weight, which could reach up to 4kg. It was then a question of sucking the egg, of raising the weight, even for the most experts to make it oscillate. But we are talking about extraordinary performances, similar to those of yogis who walk on embers, or Tibetans who immerse themselves in ice. It has nothing to do with being used by everyone for any sexual benefit!
Can the use of these eggs improve the performance of the perineum?
Dr Bernadette de Gasquet : Squeezing the perineum to try and hold weight is anything but a good idea. It is not by blocking the muscle that we will improve anything. A good perineum is a dynamic, elastic perineum capable of adapting. There at best nothing will happen, at worst the women will make a whole bunch of movements that will be counterproductive. This is exactly what we observe with certain connected devices supposed to allow autonomous rehabilitation. They are simple pressure sensors that react when a contraction is felt. But we can produce a strong pressure by contracting the teenagers, the buttocks, without ever engaging the perineum! Women will quickly realize that they are getting nowhere with these eggs, which in addition to being heavy are slippery. It is putting them in a situation of regrettable failure.
Geisha balls are sometimes recommended to rehabilitate the perineum, are they effective?
Dr Bernadette de Gasquet : These accessories are very different from eggs: geisha balls are not heavy, and by their structure allow the perineum to work. So yes, they can be a lot more fun. But you still have to know what to do with it. If we do not know what to mobilize to make them move, they will be useless. It is therefore a tool intended more for women who already have a good feeling, those who have already done rehabilitation for example.
For those who feel pressure when practicing a sport for example, we can advise to try the pessaries. These objects are not well known in France, yet they can be useful in preventing or stabilizing organ descent. It should be remembered, it is unfortunately not by contracting the perineum that we will go up the organs! And for sexual performance, again we place a great responsibility on the perineum. It is believed that a more toned perineum is a guarantee of more numerous and / or intense orgasms, this is not true! Fortunately, moreover, not everything depends on a muscle.
