Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini yesterday accused the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) at the University of Caen of serious professional misconduct. Following the definitive rejection of his controversial study on transgenic corn and the Agency’s refusal to reassess the product, the molecular biology researcher accuses EFSA of being undermined by conflicts of interest. In May, its president resigned to take up responsibilities within ILSI, a lobby for the agri-food industry. Even refusal of the French health agencies last month, which had however recommended long-term studies on the consumption of GMOs. Studies which hardly exist at present.
