“Becoming generic, it has to be earned”. Here is the slogan of the new wave of the countryside information launched in 2016 by Health Insurance, the Ministry of Solidarity and Health and the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM). The goal? Continue to reassure the French about the effectiveness and safety of generic medicines.
A process that seems to be working, since general practitioners’ confidence in generic drugs is 7/10 (compared to 6.6/10 in 2016). The same is true for patients: 73% of them use them when they are sick and make less and less distinction between generic and original drugs.
1.3 billion savings expected
To go even further, the Health Insurance has taken an interest, through this new operation, in blocking situations linked to generic drugs. Are they as effective as the original drugs? Do they cause side effects? What about their price? So many concrete questions to which this campaign has decided to answer, with the support of specialists.
To do this, educational videos, a question/answer platform and quizzes are already available on the sites. ameli.fr and medicaments.gouv.fr. At the same time, doctors will give information memos to their patients. The goal ? Save again this year thanks to generic drugs 1.3 billion euros, in order to finance medical innovation.
