Gamete donation will soon be open to everyone. This is what the newspaper exclusively announced Release : a decree in preparation should allow “to men and women who have not yet had children to donate their gametes, sperm and oocytesThis measure echoes the bioethics law that came into force in 2011.
Objective: to double the donation of oocytes
While 24,000 children are born each year in France from a assisted reproduction (PMA), waiting times remain very long as soon as parents have to use gamete banks. By opening donations to nulliparous people, that is to say people who have never had children, this new decree would make it possible to reduce delays by increasing the number of available gametes. The goal is to achieve 900 egg donations per year, or double the current number. For men, 300 donations per year should be enough to cover sperm needs.
Allow women to procreate after 40
To encourage these donations, the law plans to offer donors compensation in kind: they will be able to keep part of their gametes to themselves have recourse to a possible ART in the future. Until now, French law prohibited the storage of gametes for personal use, except in cases of diseases that could lead to sterility. This decree could thus give the possibility to women donors having frozen their oocytes to procreate after 40 yearseven when their fertility begins to decline.
