On the occasion of the 21st National Hearing Day, Afflelou Acousticien stores offer the public specialized terminals allowing a hearing assessment to be carried out in 10 minutes and free of charge. The principle is simple, each ear will be tested separately with an audio headset broadcasting bass or treble sounds. The hearing thresholds, that is to say the weakest and strongest perceptible intensity (measured in decibels), will be measured at different frequencies (measured in hertz). These terminals are available in 215 stores, with or without an appointment.
Detect hearing problems more effectively
The aim is to facilitate the screening of hearing problems. Indeed, the JNA association taking care of this national day, has just published investigation showing that 28% of the French population would be affected by tinnitus and that in general 2 out of 3 French people have never had their hearing checked. Young people are the worst students with 80% of less than 35% who have never taken a test, a population yet strongly affected by tinnitus.
Regarding hearing loss, this phenomenon is later. It often begins from the age of 55 and concerns nearly 5 million people in France. According to the JNA association, it is important for hearing to become “a public health issue through systematic medical vigilance and the implementation of an active primary prevention policy identical to that of the fight against obesity “.
