There are many reasons for wanting to establish colonies on other celestial bodies: to extract resources, to combat overpopulation, or as a backup in case we infest Mother Earth too much. However, neighbors such as the moon or Mars are by nature rather inhospitable, so we can choose between living in a biosphere – a closed dome that requires constant management – or providing an atmosphere and surface water.
