Whether it’s the ever-recurring question of whether everything was better in the past, to gain a better understanding of our place in history, or to find specific information, archives are an indispensable and inexhaustible source of knowledge. And … also in the Netherlands more and more are available online. A wonderful example of this is the newspaper collection of the North Holland Archives including the complete archive of the Haarlem’s Dagblad (the ‘ disappeared in 1945). Of course, this collection is wonderful reading material and you don’t even have to take it to the wastepaper basket afterwards.
