Work, social life, leisure, sport… The health crisis we are going through has upset all the habits of the whole country. With the confinement, in force from March 17 to May 11, the French have observed changes in their lifestyles, but, above all, in consumption. As shown in Datalicious, the observatory of new catering methods from Just Eateveryone’s relationship to food has been turned upside down in recent months.
The survey conducted from April 22 to 24, 2020 with a sample of 1,000 people representative of the French population, aged 18 and over, indicates in particular that 20% of confined French people ate more together in the kitchen. Similarly, they were 17% more than before confinement to eat while watching the television news, 13% to eat while watching a series, as well as to eat on the sofa, and, finally, 12% of respondents dined more. in front of their webcam than before.
79% of confined French people eat at regular times
Another change observed: meals have taken an important place in the daily lives of the French. Thus, nearly a third of them said they eat entirely homemade meals, and this is much more than before. Similarly, confined, 36% of respondents cooked more cakes, desserts or gourmet snacks, 26% watched recipes or video tutorials on television or online, 18% ate traditional family meals, and 16% had an aperitif dinner at the end of the day.
During confinement, respondents rediscovered the benefits of food. They are nearly a third to declare that it has appeased them. Faced with the uncertainties linked to the current context, 79% of confined French people have adopted reassuring habits, such as eating at regular times.
34% of French people favor a healthy and balanced diet
Also, with confinement, a fifth of respondents ate French to support farmers, as well as small local traders. Similarly, 34% were in favor of a healthy and balanced diet to deal with the health crisis. Finally, 20% of French people have opted for varied meals, in order to avoid the monotony of confinement.
15% of respondents plan to continue baking cakes
According to Datalicious, the new restoration methods implemented since March should continue post-lockdown. Indeed, a fifth of French people plan to maintain a number of the habits they have taken on, such as preparing meals at home. Similarly, 15% of respondents intend to continue to prepare cakes, desserts or gourmet snacks, 11% to watch recipes or video tutorials on television or online, 15% to have traditional family meals, and 9% to have an aperitif dinner at the end of the day.
Nevertheless, a third of French people indicated that they will snack less than during confinement. Also in a desire to regain control, 17% of respondents plan to stop preparing cakes and pastries, while 15% want to put an end to aperitif dinners.
