Russia is attacking Ukraine and everyone is going to check the planes flying over the country. Flightrader24 is therefore busy.
It was already a bit coming: Russia attacks Ukraine. This will certainly also have consequences for us, such as your digital coins or the price of petrol at the pump. What we also do is go en masse to Flightrader24, to see with which aircraft Russia is carrying out attacks.
Flightrader24 well attended
It looks like disaster. It’s horrible, but you still want to see it. Flightrader24 is a website that allows you to follow live aircraft. Normally nice to look at, but now the website is visited even more. In fact, at times the site couldn’t handle the crowds. So it came out several times.
The website is a popular tracker. Especially for commercial flights, repatriation flights and cargo flights. But in some cases also military flights. Flightradar24 has tracked what appears to be a military craft, a Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk of the United States Air Force.
Flightrader24 is very busy because of all this interest. The company has to deal with ten to twenty times as many visitors as normal. This leaves the company know to ZDNet.
Unreachable
At times the site was down. Visitors received a message that the site was not available. The company itself reports: “Due to the extremely heavy load, some users may experience slowness or temporary connection problems when opening Flightradar24”. Now they are working hard to increase capacity.
At the moment, of course, civilian flights in the country are limited and the airspace is closed. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has now designated Ukraine’s airspace as an active conflict zone.
