The Paca regional health agency and the Var prefecture confirm a first indigenous case of denguein the Var department. This disease is transmitted by the tiger mosquito, identifiable by its black and white stripes on the body.
We speak of an indigenous case when a person has contracted the disease on the national territory and has not traveled to an area where the virus is circulating in the previous 15 days.
“This is for the moment a unique and geographically isolated case. The infected person has consulted an attending physician and his condition does not cause any concern, ”the ARS said in a press release.
Following this first indigenous case, the Var department is placed in level 2 of the national anti-dissemination plan for chikungunya and dengue.
“To this end, the epidemiological (surveillance of other possible cases) and entomological (that is to say mosquito populations) surveillance measures provided for in the national anti-dissemination plan have been reinforced” recalls the Agency. . “And, mosquito control actions are also underway around the area of residence of the infected person.”
Recommendations to protect yourself from the tiger mosquito
the mosquito-tiger tends to spread. In France, it is found in 34 departments, and it presents a risk of contamination in 18 of them, mainly in the south of France.
The tiger mosquito is an invasive species that thrives in urban and peri-urban environments. It colonizes vases, pots, cans, gutters and any other wetland available to it.
To protect yourself from it, you are advised to:
– regularly empty or even remove the cups under flower pots and vases
– empty then return the buckets, garden equipment and shelter them from the rain
– cover the water recovery cans with a mosquito net
-to put fish in the ornamental ponds (they will eat the larvae)
– change the water in the vases at least every 24 hours, over time it becomes a real culture broth, you can add a few drops of bleach to it.
