Funny! With this interactive map you can find the most striking person from your hometown.
It’s probably not you. But it’s still fun to see who it is. The individuals are ranked based on details from their Wikipedia page. These are people you probably already know. This interactive world map visualizes “a cross-verified database of notable people” to show you the most notable person in your hometown – or wherever you want to look.

Topi Tjukanov, a geographer and senior map designer at Mapbox, compiled the visualization. This with various influential people from different fields such as culture, science, leadership and sports. What someone contributes to society for being considered remarkable can vary, so researchers tried to refine it and take bias into account where possible.
Each name on the map was determined using a baseline of information scraped from Wikipedia and Wikidata. There are, of course, some rules underlying this. The makers used a study for this by Nature, which tried to calculate a person’s fame based on different rules.
Lines
This includes the number of Wikipedia editions of each individual, or the total number of words found in all available biographies, the number of external links from Wikidata, or the average number of biography views (hits) for each individual between 2015 and 2018 in all available language editions.
