The analyzes began at the Baker Institute in Australia. The researchers worked on 46 medical studies published since 1996 concerning the sitting time of patients. And the results were correlated with data on hip circumference, insulin resistance and a marker of inflammation of those involved, three risk factors for cancer. Those who spend the most time standing and moving seem to be better protected.
Prolonged sitting is an aggravating factor in cancer. Playing sports is good, but it is every day that you have to move. Because even if you “catch up” on weekends, the effects of a sedentary lifestyle on a daily basis are really harmful and accelerate the risk of developing cancer.
These studies also show that a sedentary lifestyle is bad for people in remission, and that it would increase the risk of relapses.
Knowing that on average we spend 60% of the time (television, public transport, car, computer) sitting, and for those who work in an office, 75%, it seems important to start changing our way of life.
Advice for people who work seated.
It is recommended that you get up from your desk every hour to take a short walk in the halls of at least 2 minutes.
Instead of sending an email or calling your colleagues, go see them at their post. It’s good for your health and for your reputation!
Walking is good, but like on a plane, it is recommended to stretch your muscles and boost blood circulation throughout the day.
However, we do not forget good habits: get off a metro or bus station beforehand, and always take the stairs rather than the elevator or escalators.
