As part of the Ferrari Finali Mondiali 2021, on the Mugello circuit, Ferrari unveiled a new model of its limited series “Icona”. After the Monza SP1 and SP2, here is the Daytona SP3 a nod to the sports prototypes of the 1960s and more particularly to the 330 P3 / 4. Price: 2 million
In 2018, Ferrari created a surprise by launching a new family of products: the “Icona”. The concept ? Develop special limited series referring to iconic cars from the past. The Monza SP1 and SP2, inspired by the barchetta of the 1950s, paved the way. On the occasion of the Ferrari Finali Mondiali, this November 20, 2021, on the Mugello circuit (Italy), the manufacturer revealed the Daytona SP3.
The queens of endurance as references
Ferrari was inspired by its glorious endurance track record to choose the name of this newcomer. It evokes the legendary hat-trick achieved in 1967, on Ford land, by the 330 P3 / 4, 330 P4 and 412 P at the 24 Hours of Daytona! The silhouette of the new sports car unmistakably recalls the lines of the 330 P4, one of the favorite cars of Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari’s design director.
In profile, two other characteristics typical of endurance prototypes are obvious: the very advanced cockpit and the raised stern. The butterfly doors have been designed to channel the air flow to the side radiators. At the rear, the Daytona SP3 sports a whole new look. The integrated spoiler takes up the entire width of the car and its lip has been lengthened towards the rear to improve lift without penalizing drag. Under the lights, thin light bands adorn the shield where two exhaust outlets take place. The backbone behind the cockpit, inspired by the 330 P4, hides the heart of the beast …
An atmospheric V12 of 840 hp
Ferrari wanted to offer the Daytona SP3 “ the most exhilarating V12 on the market “! The manufacturer took over its mechanics from the 812 Competizione. By installing the 6.5L block at the rear, he was able to optimize the layout of the intake and exhaust as well as the dynamic efficiency of the fluids, specifies the firm.
The Daytona SP3 benefits from titanium connecting rods, 40% lighter, the pistons have been treated with adamantine carbon (DLC), and the crankshaft, lighter by 3%, has been rebalanced. The management strategy of the direct fuel injection system has also been perfected, even allowing the passage to reduce pollutant emissions by 30%. In the end, with its 840 hp (+ 10 hp) and its 697 Nm of torque (+ 5 Nm), this V12 becomes the most powerful internal combustion engine ever built by Ferrari. The firm announces a 0 to 100 km / h in 2.85 seconds, a 0 to 200 km / h in just 7.4 seconds and more than 340 km / h in peak.
On board this new Targa
The Maranello firm developed the Daytona SP3 from the carbon fiber monocoque chassis of the LaFerrari Aperta. The seats have been integrated into the frame. Behind the steering wheel, we have a lower and more inclined driving position than in the other Ferraris in the range. This setup allowed Ferrari to reduce weight and keep the car’s height at 1,142mm, with the goal of reducing drag.
To adjust his driving position, close to that of a single-seater, the driver must adjust his pedals. The steering wheel of the Daytona SP3 is identical to those of the SF90 Stradale or Roma, which allows the driver to control 80% of the vehicle’s functions without moving their hands. Behind the wheel, Ferrari has installed a 16-inch curved HD screen where all information, relating to driving and the multimedia system, is displayed. Reintroduced to the range on the SF90 Stradale, the gearshift grid of the F1 dual-clutch transmission is making a comeback between the seats. Paddles behind the steering wheel optimize gear changes.
599 copies only
The Daytona SP3 is sold in only 599 units. Each unit is invoiced at 2 million euros including tax (price in Italy). Without a doubt, all the units have already found a taker!
