Two years ago, a dangerous trend was gaining momentum in the United States: tattooing the eye. This practice, which consists of injecting color pigments into the sclera, that is to say the white of the eye, Catt Gallinger, a 24-year-old Canadian has paid the price. It’s certain Facebook that she shared her mishap, supporting photos.
Three weeks after getting a tattoo on her left eye, the young woman noticed that theink mauve used in the procedure ran down her face. She then went to the hospital where the doctors gave her the drops. antibiotics, without success. Catt then underwent treatment with steroid drops, which only made the internal swelling of the eye worse. The purple ink is thus concentrated around the cornea.
“Be careful”
Catt Gallinger explains that this infection is due to undiluted ink. Doctors, meanwhile, say tattoo equipment shouldn’t be completely sterile. If the inflammation has since subsided, the young woman still has purple and swollen eyes. Worse still: his seen has declined and doctors say she will never make a full recovery. She may even lose her sight completely.
On Facebook, the young Canadian decided to alert Internet users, explaining the consequences of this tattoo on her physical health, but also mental. “My hair is falling out in clumps, giving way to bald areas. I weigh 41 kilos and my weight continues to drop, even though I eat,” she says in a video. “Be careful and do your research. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” Catt concludes.
