Containment maintained until May 11, tests for all those with possible symptoms from this date, a mask promised for everyone and the reopening of nurseries, schools and high schools which will be done gradually. Update on Emmanuel Macron’s statements for the rest of the health crisis.
The end of confinement on May 11
Emmanuel Macron announced almost a month of additional confinement. “The epidemic is starting to stall but is not under control,” said the President of the Republic. But he still set May 11 as a first phase towards a return to a more normal life, “only if the spread of the virus continues to slow”.
From this date, outings will therefore become freer again and, above all, nurseries, schools and high schools will be gradually reopened. On the other hand, no resumption of courses for universities. And a return to work accompanied by strict health rules.
However, bars, restaurants and performance halls will remain closed.
Tests and masks multiplied
Each person with symptoms can be tested with priority given to the elderly, caregivers and the most fragile people. All positive people can be placed in quarantine. Masks will be made available to everyone for possible systematic use in public transport.
Visits to health establishments will be facilitated to support end-of-life patients.
The “tracking” envisaged
An application could be deployed to track the path of sick people and identify all those who may have been infected. A parliamentary debate will be organized on this subject.
Borders outside Europe remain closed.
The health system honored and strengthened
“The health personnel held out, the hospitals were able to treat all those who presented themselves there”, underlined Emmanuel Macron, honoring the involvement of the caregivers. He also announced heavy investments to come in Health and recognition of health professionals through a review of remuneration.
The president recalled that since the start of this epidemic, the number of intensive care beds had been doubled and that the transfer of patients to the least affected regions had worked well.
The way out of the crisis linked to treatments and vaccines
“The first way out of this crisis is that of vaccines”, underlined Emmanuel Macron, specifying that it could take “several months”. As for treatments, after the controversy over the use of chloroquine, the president declared that “no avenue will be overlooked”.
