Elon Musk wants to recoup his investment in Twitter by asking money for Tweets. Is that a brilliant idea or a death sentence?
After Elon Musk spent a godsend on Twitter, the question now is how he thinks he will earn it all back. There were all kinds of whispers in the corridors. Now it’s up to the richest man on Earth himself: asking for money for Tweets. But is that such a good idea?
Elon wants money for Tweets
if it’s on Elon Musk is (and it does) then companies and governments will soon pay a small amount for being able to post Tweets. He says on the platform: “Twitter will always remain free for casual users, but may require a small contribution from commercial users and governments.”
He does not explain in his message how this works. At first glance, there are two flavors. Or commercial parties have to ‘buy’ an account, perhaps for a one-off contribution or for a monthly fee. The alternative is that a small amount of money has to be paid per Tweet.
Commercial platform
But how does this appeal to the users of Twitter† Of course everyone screams bloody murder now that money is involved. Perhaps the system that Musk proposes, on the other hand, is not so bad.
Twitter has been a commercial platform for almost as long as it has existed. While ordinary people use it to discuss topics they know nothing about, the under-the-hood social medium serves primarily as a mouthpiece for artists, streaming services, billionaires, and influencers.
If such parties want to reach millions of people, why shouldn’t they make a small contribution. This way papa Musk earns his money back, while we can continue to use Twitter for free!
