A new province affected by Ebola
A new province of the DRC has just been affected by the virus, it is South Kivu, which was until then spared by Ebola. On Friday August 16, the Congolese Ministry of Health declared the first two cases recorded in this area. Two other cases were also recorded in Uganda. In the past year, 844 patients have been declared cured.
This hemorrhagic fever epidemic is the second worst experienced by West Africa, after the one which killed more than 11,300 people between 2014 and 2016. The epidemic continues to spread, in particular because of the unstable security situation in several parts of the country, which prevent health facilities from working against the virus.
