Three patients with viral haemorrhagic fever were detected on Malian territory and placed in solitary confinement. Biological samples were taken and sent for analysis to the laboratory of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, United States.
“An isolation site for the management (of suspected and confirmed cases, if applicable) has been set up on the outskirts of the city of Bamako and others are being set up in other localities” said the Malian government last night.
Ebola: France takes security measures
Faced with this epidemic of Ebola fever in Guinea, France has increased its “vigilance” by alerting doctors in particular to the symptoms of this disease, announced the Minister of Social Affairs Marisol Touraine, stressing that there is “no cause for particular concern”.
For now, there are no restrictions on travel to West African countries where suspected cases of haemorrhagic fever have been reported, but French doctors have been alerted “so that when faced with certain symptoms, they can think about this disease so that care can be provided as quickly as possible” underlined the Minister of Social Affairs.
A mortality rate of 90%
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola hemorrhagic fever is one of the most virulent viral diseases known to humans. As with the coronavirus, bats are suspected to be the source of the virus. But, according to the WHO, the Ebola virus enters the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or biological fluids of infected animals.
There is currently no treatment or vaccine for this hemorrhagic fever which kills up to 90% of infected people.
