191,558 people from 58 countries and 5 continents have had their diet analyzed by researchers. Over the course of this large study, scientists were able to confirm that oily fish and truly beneficial for fighting cardiovascular diseasethey explain in the review JAMA Network.
We already knew that oily fish were good for your health: they are rich in fatty acids, improve our cholesterol levels, limit overweight, reduce the risk of depression, dementia, internal inflammation… And they are good to fight against cardiovascular diseases, especially in people with a history or at increased risk.
Cardiovascular accidents reduced by 16%
Of those studied, about 51,000 had a cardiovascular disorder. Scientists have studied more closely – and for more than seven years – their consumption of fatty fish, such as salmon, tuna, sardines, herring… Conclusion? Those who ate at least two portions a week saw their risk of developing a cardiovascular accident (heart attack, stroke, etc.) decrease by 16%. The risk of death of these people at risk has also decreased by 18%.
If fatty fish is good for health, it does not allow 100% to avoid declaring this type of pathology. But for people at risk, it is particularly beneficial, say the researchers. That said, eating it twice a week has far more benefits than risksdoctor Dariush Mozaffarian, interviewed by the JAMA Network, advises everyone to do so.
