A memory gap? Eat a few berries a day, it would promote memory.
According to an article published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the consumption of a few berries daily would help preserve memory and prevent decline in cognitive abilities linked to aging. Researchers dissected studies on the impact of berries at the cellular level and on cognitive functions in humans and animals. They found that berries can protect the brain by changing the way neurons communicate. This change would have the effect of improving motor and cognitive functions. It would also prevent inflammation of the brain.
Antioxidants that protect cells
The supposed virtues of berries are due to their high content of antioxidants. If they are not sufficiently neutralized by the body, free radicals can be responsible for cardiovascular disease, cancer and diseases related to aging of the skin. Consuming foods rich in antioxidants would compensate for the deficiencies of natural antioxidants in our body. To better fight against free radicals and prevent the accelerated aging of our cells caused by many factors such as pollution, tobacco, sun exposure, stress, etc.
So the polyphenols berries are said to help protective brain cells in their work of removing and recycling biochemical waste, a process that declines with age.
